As a consumer, you are protected under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Here's what you need to know about your rights.
If you believe any information in your LeaseDefend report is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable, you have the right to file a dispute.
Once you file a dispute, we are legally required to conduct a reasonable investigation within 30 days.
If the disputed information is found to be inaccurate, we will correct or remove it. We will also notify any parties who received the report with the inaccurate information.
If the investigation verifies the information as accurate, you have the right to include a brief statement in your file explaining your position.
If a property manager denies your rental application — or offers less favorable terms — based on your LeaseDefend report, they must send you an adverse action notice.
After receiving an adverse action notice, you have 60 days to request a free copy of your report from us.
This free report is in addition to any report you may have already received.
You have the right to request a complete disclosure of all information in your consumer file.
This includes all data we have on file, the sources of that information, and a list of everyone who has accessed your report.
You can access your full consumer file by logging into your LeaseDefend account and visiting your dashboard.
As a Consumer Reporting Agency, LeaseDefend is required to follow reasonable procedures to ensure maximum possible accuracy of the information in your report.
Your LeaseWorthy™ Score is generated from verified bank data via Mastercard — we do not rely on self-reported information.
We regularly audit our data processing to maintain accuracy standards.
Your report can only be accessed by parties with a permissible purpose under the FCRA.
For tenant screening, the permissible purpose is evaluating a rental application. Property managers must certify this purpose before viewing your report.
Your report will never be shared with parties who do not have a permissible purpose.
